Since your family members know where to go and what supplies to look for they will be able to focus on the plan and what needs to be done. Disasters can be scary, but by preparing you can eliminate a lot of the scary. Having a plan and a kit are especially necessary if you have young children. Talking them through the plan will put their minds at ease and let them know they are safe. Carrying out the plan will give them a sense of security at what can be a trying time.
You disaster kit should consist of first aid supplies and gear to tide you and your family over for several days. You kit should have non-perishable food items, emergency drinking water pouches, fire retardant blankets, hand warmers, and other supplies to keep you comfortable and fed.
