Emergency first aid is unfortunately something everyone needs to prepare for. Making sure you have the supplies necessary to administer care allows you to take care of yourself and your loved ones during uncertain times.
You should have emergency first aid supplies at home and in your vehicle. When purchasing supplies consider where and how you will use them. If you are performing emergency first aid in your car you may not have access to running water, tissues or paper towels, and other supplies that may very well come in handy, but are not typically in your vehicle. Plan for this and make sure you have adequate stand-in supplies. While the supplies in your first aid kit are very important, also give some consideration to the case or cabinet that holds all of the supplies. Make sure you have a big enough case and make sure you store it someplace that is easily accessible. If you have children, make sure they know where the first aid kit is stored and can reach the kit when they are old enough. It can also be helpful to go over your emergency first aid kit with your children when there isn't an emergency. Show them the supplies and explain how they are used. Getting your children acquainted with the kit and supplies can take some of the scariness out of emergency first aid if a time comes when you need to use the kit. No one looks forward to emergency first aid situations, but with proper planning you can make the unexpected go as smoothly as possible.
