![]() Safety is a top priority, especially in emergency situations. Make sure your emergency preparedness kit is stocked up and ready to go should the unexpected happen. Routinely check the emergency kit you keep in your car, home, camper or RV. Look to see if items are missing; also check the packaging of items. Make sure pouches of antiseptic wipes or first aid ointment are no tear or punctures. Make sure containers of hand sanitizer or other liquids are properly sealed and have not leaked. If anything did leak make sure no damage was caused to other items. Check expiration dates or use by dates and make sure nothing is past its prime. If your kit has a flashlight or radio check the batteries and make sure the devices work properly. Also check the bag or container your emergency supplies are stored in. If it is metal are there any dents or rust. If the case is plastic are there are cracks? If the bag is fabric are there any holes? Does the closure, whether a latch of zipper, still keep the case closed? Replace anything that was used, expired, or damaged. Also think about items not in your emergency kit that it may be handy to have. Do you have hand warmers and a blanket? Do you have light sticks or a flashlight? Plastic ponchos may not make the best fashion statement, but can be extremely useful in an emergency situation. Make sure you and your loved ones are safe in an emergency by stocking up on supplies for your emergency preparedness kit. |
