![]() A spine board, or spinal board or backboard may have several names, but it only has one function. At its most basic a spine board is a flat, rigid board that a patient can lay on and be strapped to after an accident or medical emergency. The board supports the back in the event of a spinal injury, so as to not worsen the damage. A spine board also features handles so first responders and medical personal can safely and easily lift and move the patient. When purchasing a spine board make sure you consider how you will use the board. For instance, we offer spine boards that do not interfere with X-ray machines; so a patient who suffered a trauma and is strapped to a backboard can go straight to testing to determine the extent of the injuries without the need to remove them from the board. Plastic boards are ideal for water rescue since they will not be damaged when submerged. Plastic also offers the additional advantage of being easy to clean. Unfortunately, it is in the nature of emergency medicine that blood or other bodily fluids may come in contact with your spine board, so being able to quickly clean and disinfect your board is a huge timesaver and safe for future patients. Also make sure to consider the supported weight capacity. We offer boards specifically for children as well as spinal boards that can support up to 2,000 pounds. In addition to your spine board make sure to stock up on straps and blocks to safely and comfortably secure patients. We carry a mounting bracket to store your spine board when not in use. We also carry diving bricks for water rescue training. |
