Sport First Aid Kits
Keep a sport first aid kit at the ready so you can give it your all at game time and patch up any injuries you may obtain during play. Consider the types of sports and locations you will be playing in when purchasing a sport first aid kit. Hot and cold compress packs let you soothe and ease an injury as needed. Hot compresses increase blood flow and can help speed up the healing process. Cold compresses minimize blood flow and are typically more useful for immediate sport related injuries. Minimizing blood flow can reduce swelling and the cold temperature can numb pain which sometimes may be more beneficial than anything. Wrap bandages can be used to hold a compress in place or can give a tender wrist or ankle some extra support. Aspirin and non-aspirin medications can lift pain and discomfort; bear in mind that aspirin is a blood thinner, which makes it ideal to give to someone who is showing signs of heart distress, but aspirin should not be given to someone who has an open wound and is bleeding since the blood thinning qualities may slow clotting. Athletic tape can be used like a wrap bandage, but providing extra support. The tape can also be used to wrap individual fingers in order to prevent blisters or provide extra grip.
Periodically inspect your first aid kit to make sure it is well-stocked and ready for action. Check out our refill section to replace supplies that have been used or expired. Keeping a sport first aid kit on standby ensures you are prepared to give care if you or a friend becomes injured.
