Whistles
A whistle can be used to get the attention of a single person or group of people during an emergency situation. Whistles are necessary items for lifeguards since the high-pitched shrill catches people's attention. A lifeguard can alert a swimmer who is about to break a safety rule or regulation about the issue at hand, or they can alert people to a danger in the area. Lifeguards are commonly associated with whistles, but whistles can also be handy tools for security, camp consolers, and even a parent chaperoning a field trip. Some safety experts suggest women should carry a whistle to alert other's if they are approached by an individual who attempts to overpower them to summon help and scare away a would-be attacker.
Whistles work when the user blows air into the mouthpiece and that air enters the chamber. The chamber features vents and when the air is divided by the vents it causes the air to vibrate within the chamber which creates a loud noise. Most small whistles contain an even smaller ball, referred to as a pea. When the air in the chamber begins to vibrate the pea is tossed about within the chamber and this gives the sound the piercing shrill.
We offer several plastic whistles that come in a variety of colors and a whistle constructed of metal for durability. We also offer colored lanyards so your staff can wear their whistles around their necks, keeping their whistles close at hand should they need them. Make sure to clean your whistle, especially if you have been ill to prevent re-infecting yourself. It is also not advisable to share a whistle since it can help the spread of germs and bacteria.
